Explore ancient and contemporary methods of using plant-based raw materials to make specialized herbal products for facial care. All products can be personally customized to suit your own needs. We use organic ingredients as much as possible. In this class we will make:
– Custom Facial Wash: Using Castile soap as a base, we will add whole plant extracts, essential oils and other plant extracts such as aloe vera and vegetable glycerine, depending on your skin type.
– Specialty Facial Serums: A serum is formulated as a vehicle to deliver something specific to skin, such as Vitamin C, or Green Tea Extract. Serums are enriched with precious plant oils so that they also offer a light, non-greasy moisturizing treatment. You will choose two of the following to make: Rejuvenating Facial Serum with vitamin C (renew and repair aging skin); Cooling Green Tea Serum (for redness, inflammation and rosacea); Classic Rose Serum (all-purpose nourishing and moisturizing).
– Gentle Exfoliating Cleansing Grains A simple, ancient blend of powdered organic flower blossoms and grains to gently exfoliate and clean the face.
– Demonstration and discussion only: Simple Sunblock Facial Lotion. Using the experience in making your serums, you will learn how to use the same basic ingredients with Zinc Oxide to make your own customized sunblock at home.
Students will bring some basic kitchen tools and jars.
If you have questions about ingredients or allergies, please contact me. It is often possible to customize product ingredients. All classes include handouts and recipes so you can continue making products after the class at home.
Classes are designed with many accommodations for safety due to Covid: Class size is limited. Social distance is ensured in a very large and spacious studio with 18′ ceilings and very good ventilation. Individual work stations are at least 6′ apart. Students bring most of their own supplies and use of shared tools is limited. Use of face masks is mandatory.
